On August 10th, volunteers from Barton Malow gathered at a home in Southfield to help out a member of their community, Alfonso. We were so excited to be working with Barton Malow for the first time, with them helping out as a part of their Community Week. The majority of the work done that day was on the inside of the home, helping Alfonso have a safe and healthy home to live in. It was a busy day for the volunteers, as they replaced the hot water heater, installed new kitchen flooring, put in a new sink and painted the living room walls and ceilings. In addition to the work done by our wonderful volunteers, a professional plumber came to Alfonso’s house the next day to fix a shut-off valve that had been broken.
All of the work that was done on the house helped make it a more comfortable place to call home. A new hot water heater will help Alfonso save on energy costs and ensure in the cold Michigan winters that he has reliable hot water. The new flooring in the kitchen will make keeping the house clean much easier, and a fresh coat of paint brightens up any room, all contributing to a safe and healthy place to live.
The volunteers took time out of their busy work schedules to come and help out, coming out on a Friday which could have been spent getting work done around the office and for their own projects. We are so thankful for the volunteers from Barton Malow and all of the hard work that they put in that day, without volunteers like them we would not be able to provide the services that we do. We would also like to thank Alfonso for welcoming us into his home, homeowners like him are the reason that we do what we do. When community members come together to help each other out wonderful things can happen, and we are so thankful to be able to do our part to bring people together in a positive way.
